The Dead Sea

The Dead Sea is a favorite place for all who visit Israel. As you descend 417 meters below sea level, suddenly you’ll find a breathtaking treasure in the lowest place in the world. As you journey the winding road, the incredible array of colors in the water, surrounded by the majestic Moab Mountains on its eastern shore, and the sandy Judean Desert Mountains on its western shore, will leave an everlasting imprint on your soul.

Also known as the Salt Sea because of its high salinity of approximately 33%, the biological life in the sea is non-existent. Doctors, scientists and researchers agree that the unusual combination of salt and plentiful minerals gives the sea and the mud healing properties. Visitors come from all around the world to the medical spas for skin conditions and other health issues to receive professional treatment. If that isn’t enough, The Dead Sea resort area of Ein Boqeq has several amenities to serve this amazing health experience including luxurious hotels, fine dining, full service health spas, and clean public beaches that you can use to enjoy "floating" in the water.

If you love nature, the Bible, or adventure, the Dead Sea is perfect for outdoor fun. Ein Boqeq, Ein Gedi, or Ein Fescha have natural springs or waterfalls where the wildlife of Israel comes alive. Also along the Dead Sea are historical and biblical sites like; En Gedi where David hid from Saul, the Persimmon farms whose perfume during biblical times was the most expensive, Masada where one of King Herod's palaces was built and later used by the Jewish zealots during a revolt, and Qumran where one of the most fascinating archeological discoveries of the 20th century was found. For outdoor fun there are many options you can choose from including; hiking through the ravines of the Judean wilderness, taking a camel or horseback ride, or enjoying a jeep ride through the vast desert terrain.

Come and find out for yourself why the Dead Sea one of the finalists for the new Seven Wonders of the World competition taking place in 2011.
