Belvoir Fortress

French Crusaders during the second century strategically built the Belvoir Fortress on primary trade routes high above the valley about 12 miles south of the Galilee. The impressive site is a powerful display of history during the Crusaders era.

In 1180 Saladin, a Muslim warrior, laid siege to Belvoir for about four years. The Muslim forces, unable to penetrate the fortress, withdrew and returned in 1187 to again surround the Crusaders. Several years later, the knights of Belvoir surrendered, left the fortress and sailed back to Europe.

With amazing views of the Jordon River, the Belvoir Fortress stands as a testimony to the passion that has been generated though the ages on behalf of the Land of Israel.
