Between the gently rolling hills and the distinct beauty of the Sea of Galilee rises the Mount of Beatitudes. According to Matthew chapters 5-7, Jesus preached the Sermon on the Mount. The natural landscape creates a distinguishable amphitheatre able to contain the multitudes that came to hear the sermon.
“When Jesus saw the crowds, He went up on the mountain; and after He sat down, His disciples came to Him. He opened His mouth and began to teach them, saying, Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.” Matthew 5:1-3
Famed Italian architect Antonio Barluzzi designed the Church of Mount of Beatitudes. Inside the church written on floor are mosaics and on each side of the ceiling windows are verses and symbols related to the sermons given by Jesus. Throughout the church garden are statues with scriptures and benches to gather a small group and read from the Bible.
