Cana

"On the third day there was a wedding in Cana of Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there; and both Jesus and His disciples were invited to the wedding." John 2:1-2

An eighth century tradition holds that this site is the Cana of the New Testament where Jesus turned the water into wine (John 2) and where he healed the royal official's son that was at Capernaum (John 4:46).  There are three churches at this site: The Franciscan Wedding Church where many pilgrims renew their wedding vows; St George's Greek Orthodox Church that contains the remains of two wine jars from the Roman period; and the Church of Saint Bartholomew which is dedicated to one of the disciples of Jesus who was from Cana (John 21:2). Modern Cana has a promenade with a variety of gift shops where “wedding wine” is available and restaurants to relax and enjoy.

If you like adventure, you can take the challenging hike to the ancient village ruins atop a small hill and be rewarded with the sweeping views and old ruins.
