Jezreel Valley

Jezreel translated exactly from Hebrew is "God sows”. The name is appropriate since the entire valley is extremely fertile. It may be for this very reason that many wars in the Bible and historical battles came together on this bountiful piece of land. It lies between the mountain ranges of Samaria to the East, Carmel to the West and South, and the Galilee to the North.

As you explore the expanse of the Jezreel valley remember the battles of: Gideon fighting the Amalakites (Judges 6), King Saul warring against the Philistines (1 Sam 31 and 1 Chronicles 10), Deborah the prophetess victorious over Sisra (Judges 5), and King Josiah who died fighting against the Egyptian Pharoah Necho II (2 Chronicles 35). Besides being the site of many other historical battles, the Jezreel Valley is where Christian eschatologists believe the great end time battle called Armageddon will take place (Revelation 16:16).

The false prophets of Baal were slaughtered in the Kishon stream and Jezebel was killed and thrown to the dogs in the city of Jezreel (1Kings 18:40 and 2 Kings 9:32).

“Then Elijah said to them, "Seize the prophets of Baal; do not let one of them escape." So they seized them; and Elijah brought them down to the brook Kishon, and slew them there. 1 Kings 18:40
