"The daughters of the uncircumcised will exult. O mountains of Gilboa, Let not dew or rain be on you, nor fields of offerings." 1 Samuel 1:19-20
Mount Gilboa lies as a mountain lying between the Samaria hills, the Jezreel valley, and the rift valley. Its location and height provide beautiful lookout views of all three as well as the Gilead Mountains. It is known for the great battle between the Philistines and King Saul took place, and where King Saul eventually met his fate after falling on his own sword.
Mount Gilboa, once bald, today has been forested by the Jewish National Fund. Many attest its former baldness with David's lament over Saul and Jonathan, which he declared, "let not dew or rain be on you"(1 Samuel 1:20). Scriptures from this event embedded into stone along the trail make Mount Gilboa's biblical experience an event you will not want to miss.
Popular for its unique flora and fauna, visitors flock to the area during spring when natural gardens of purple irises, known as the rare Gilboa Iris, sprinkle the mountainside. At the base of the mountain is one of Israel’s most tranquil spots, Gan HaShlosha-Sachne whose gardens and pools were voted by TIME Magazine as one of the 20 most beautiful spots on earth.
