"Jesus took with Him Peter and James and John, and brought them up to a high mountain by themselves. And He was transfigured before them" Mark 9:2
Mount Tabor is in the heart of the lower-Galilee and can be seen for miles as a magnificent high and rounded mountain. From the peak you can view the entire Jezreel valley, Mount Carmel, Mount Gilboa, and Samaria. It was at this mountain that the Bible describes the victorious story of Deborah in the battle against Sisera (Judges 4). Tradition holds the New Testament narrative of the Transfiguration of Jesus was here at Mount Tabor.
When traveling up to Mount Tabor you can recall its vast history from the battleground of the Jewish rebellion, Byzantines, Crusaders, the Mamlukes, and even Napoleon's short conquest at the end of the 18th century CE. You can go through the ruins of the Byzantine and Crusader churches that once stood here, and visit the gorgeous cathedral built by Antonio Barluzzi with art depicting the transfiguration of Jesus and two chapels dedicated to Moses and Elijah. Let the mountain tell you its many stories.
