Sdeh Boker

Sdeh Boker is a kibbutz located at the Wadi Zin cliffs. It was at the forefront of fulfilling, Israel's first Prime Minister David Ben Gurion's vision to settle the desert and make it bloom. It was for this reason in 1953 David Ben Gurion decided to call Kibbutz Sdeh Boker his home. It is here that you can learn about the life of this Zionist leader at his desert home, which today is a museum. There is a video presentation about the land of Israel in the Ben Gurion College in the adjacent community of Midreshet Ben Gurion. In the courtyard of this college is the gravesite of both David and Paula Ben Gurion with one of the most outstanding desert views over Wadi Zin. This is the same Wadi (desert gorge) that is mentioned in the wanderings of the children of Israel in the desert of Zin and it is the tribe of Judah's biblical southern border.

While you are there, the entrance to the Ein Avdat National Park is in the same parking lot as the College. It is here you can embark on your desert adventure to a spring, seasonal waterfall above the spring and Ein Maarif pools. Fauna and flora abound in this desert oasis and you will most likely run into a herd of ibex or other animals that make Ein Avdat their home. Ein Avdat park also provides many trails within the oasis and within Wadi Zin.  For those of you wanting to experience history within the context of the Bible, you will surely never forget Sdeh Boker and Ein Avdat!
